Fi Nano utilizes Shelterluv's API to provide almost instant updates to your Fi Nano registry account when you process an adoption outcome in Shelterluv.

Fi Nano's microchip registry integration is built by their team and is not managed by Shelterluv. We only provide Fi Nano access to your data via our API once you send your API key to Fi Nano. Since Fi Nano built and manages the integration, you need to address any issues you may experience with them.

Setting Up Your Fi Nano Integration

First, ensure you have a Fi Nano account set up. If you do not, you can get started by applying at nano.tryfi.com/apply.

Next, generate an API key in your Shelterluv configurations for Fi Nano. If you need a quick step-by-step guide on how to do this, please read How to Generate an API Key.

Once you have your account set up and your API key generated, email your API key over to Fi Nano at support@tryfi.com to finalize your integration.

Events that Trigger Microchip Registration

All existing microchips will be backfilled to your Fi Nano account when the integration is set up. After that, once an adoption, service outcome, or return to owner is processed in Shelterluv, the microchip will be fully registered.

All other intake and outcome events will not trigger a microchip registration.

Warning
Fi Nano does not re-register microchips. Rather, the previous owner must request a transfer. Please contact Fi Nano directly for more details on this.

Frequently asked questions

  • Your organization can opt to have any brand microchip registered with Fi Nano, free for life. Fi Nano will automatically import any existing Fi Nano microchips from the Shelterluv database into the Fi database for registration. You can let Fi Nano know if you would like Fi Nano to automatically register, for free, any non-Fi Nano microchips that already existed upon integration.
  • If the microchip is registered, Fi Nano will inform you that it is a duplicate and will notify you on how to proceed.
  • If you are a new Shelterluv customer and received the promo for a box of free chips, email nano@tryfi.com stating you are a customer of Shelterluv and would like to redeem the promo.
  • Once a chip is successfully registered, Fi will send an email to the new owner, ensuring a smooth transfer process. Please note that once the transfer is complete, you will no longer have access to the chip. The pet owner is now responsible for updating the chip. You can still keep track of all your microchips through a comprehensive weekly registration email report sent by Fi every Friday. This will help you stay informed and in control of your registered devices.
