Why is an animal's Date of Birth required?

  • Updated

In order to age animals each day that passes, our system needs an estimated date of birth for every animal that is entered. You may have noticed that the Date of Birth field will always exist on your intake forms. If you fill in the Age Group field first, the system will automatically assign a date of birth that falls right between the configured date range of the age group selected.

If you are guessing the animal's age or you are unable to determine the age, you can put in a medical and/or pop-up memo to indicate that the age is a guess (see this article for more details on memos: What do the different memo types mean?). These will either help inform the adopter (medical memos go onto the complete medical history which is often given to the adopter) or help inform internal staff (pop-up memos display on the top of each record when the record is accessed).
