Shelter Animals Count tells us the end animal count should be a calculation of the beginning count + live intakes - all outcomes. Since animals age, you'll end up with negatives at times if for example an animal is intaked when they were under 5 months old and then outcomed after they aged into the adult column, creating a negative count.
The matrix template on the SAC website does not break down the beginning and ending counts by age group, they are only broken down by species. With our matrix, there is a breakdown by age group and by species for beginning and end counts.
If you combine the beginning and ending totals by species as SAC does, you'll eliminate the negatives in your report and will be left with only one count per species which may be easier to work with.
