A "previously owned animal" is usually used if you want to tie an animal and person together in Shelterluv with their respective records - but do not need an intake or outcome event on the records right away. It is a shell of an animal record that can then be intaken or left as is if no intake or subsequent outcome is necessary.
Creating a Previously Owned Animal Record
In order to create a previously owned animal, navigate to the animals tab of person record and click the add animal button. "Previously Owned Animal" will be one of the drop down options. Keep in mind that if you create a littermate directly from a previously owned animal, it will be associated with the person record that the original previously owned animal record was originally entered with.
Previously owned animal records can also be created via the Field and Community Services module OR from an accepted Owner Surrender application or Custom application, then intaken into custody as needed.
These previously owned animal records do not show up on intake or outcome reports and instead are just searchable in Shelterluv.
Intake and outcome events can be added to these animals from the person record > animals tab > green action button on the right hand side of the specific previously owned animal record.
Use Case Example
You could create a previously owned animal attached to a person record if you want to track how many pets they have had and details on them or if you'd like to add animals into a person record that they have adopted from another facility (or from you in the past) but you don't want to go through the adoption process/don't need an actual intake record.
This feature alone is not used often, and it is generally only for programs where it doesn't make sense to enter intakes/outcomes and reporting on the animal record is not necessary.
Deleting a Previously Owned Animal Record
In order to delete a previously owned animal, navigate to the animals tab of the person record associated and select the green action button on the right hand side. The last option listed will be "Delete Animal."
