How do I post Lost & Found pets to my website?

  • Updated

Found Pets (in your custody)

  • If you want these animals to be displayed in your main iframe (alongside adoptable animals), just put them in any status that's configured to publish
  • If you want them to show up in a separate iframe
    1. Go to Configuration > Processing > Status Manager
    2. Set up a dedicated status under the "In Shelter Statuses" section if you don't already a suitable one ("Stray" or "Found" are good options)
    3. Make sure the status is set to "No" for Publish/Holdable/Adoptable and "Yes" for On Site/In Custody
    4. Follow the instructions in the second section of this article to set up a custom iframe
    5. On the custom report that you build for the custom iframe, add a rule for the status these animals will be in

*Be sure to read the section below on microchip numbers.

Found Pets (that will be kept by the finder) and Lost Pets

Setting up subtypes

  1. Go to Configuration > Intakes and Outcome > Intake Subtypes
  2. Create a Service Intake subtype that is set to not count toward your reporting numbers
  3. Go to the Outcome Subtypes section
  4. Create a Service Outcome subtype that is set to not count toward your reporting numbers (alternatively, you can process them with the existing "Returned Healthy to Owner" subtype

Setting up statuses

  1. Go to Configuration > Processing > Status Manager
  2. Set up a "Reported Lost" and/or a "Reported Found" status under the "In Shelter Statuses" section
  3. Make sure the status is set to "No" for Publish/Holdable/Adoptable/On Site
  4. In custody should be set to "Yes" because pre-intake records are not reportable and will prevent your animals from appearing in the iFrame.

Setting up a custom iframe

  1. Follow the instructions in the second section of this article
  2. On the custom report that you build for the custom iframe, add a rule for the status you created

Once the pet is reunited with the owner

  1. Pull up the animal's record by using the search bar, or by filtering by status on the main animals list
  2. Go back to the original person record that the Service Intake was processed from (you can find it under the animal record's History > Caretaker tab)
  3. Go to the Animals tab and process a Service Outcome
  4. If this was a Found Pet, make sure the owner has a record first, and then select the "Transfer to New Owner" option from the finder's record

*Be sure to read the section below on microchip numbers.

Microchip Numbers

Be sure NOT to enter microchip numbers in the microchip field on lost and found pet records if you have set up auto-uploads and you do not want the microchip numbers to be registered to your organization.

Some users will instead enter microchip numbers in the previous id number field as this is a searchable field.
