Human-Centric Design


Shelterluv is human-centric! This means all intake events (adding new animals) and outcome events (such as an adoption transaction) start from a person or partner record, then select the appropriate intake type (stray, surrender, transfer etc.). This helps you track how animals came to you in order to pull robust reports. 

Don’t worry, we understand that sometimes animals may appear at your doorstep and don’t always include a note, so we’ve pre-loaded every Shelterluv account with an “Unknown Person” and “Unknown Partner” to use as needed.

What is Shelterpay?


Shelterpay is our fully integrated card payment processor that enables a completely digital checkout experience and includes key features like Donation Boosts and post-adoption Best for Pets Offers

Shelterluv Terms of Use

We’ve integrated with powerful payment processors to enable Shelterpay. Merchant processing fees are typically 3.4% + $0.30 per transaction, which can be covered by your customers as a donation. Our Terms and Conditions require that Shelterluv customers who facilitate adoptions complete 94% of adoption transactions using Shelterpay. We pledge to work with each of our customers to achieve the 94% goal.

Configuration

Your new Shelterluv account is pre-configured with default fields that you can customize to meet your needs. This includes adjusting which fields are available on your intake and outcome forms, to setting up time-saving quick-fill templates for your procedures/surgeries or vaccines. 

Account configuration is broken up into three parts: General Shelter, Medical, and Transactions. You can find links below to each section, which will walk you through how to configure your account:

You can adjust your settings whenever you need to, so don't be afraid to get your feet wet, and continue to refine as you settle in!

User Training

We highly recommend that new users spend time creating test/sample data to adjust your account configurations and practice essential workflows.

Add or Import Data

When you feel ready to begin using Shelterluv to record real data, you can delete your practice data or request that we wipe your account.

Wiping your practice data will not impact your user permissions or account configurations.

Data imports involve transferring data from another system or spreadsheet into Shelterluv. If you are switching software systems or using any other method of tracking data for animals in your care, please consider the following options:

  1. No Import or Partial Import (people-only or historic-only):
    • You can start using Shelterluv sooner (after you've spent time configuring and practicing) by manually recording intake events for the animals that are currently in your custody.
    • You can request to import people only, which makes the process of recording intake events or foster associations easier.
    • We can import your historical data (animals no longer in your care) at a later time after you've settled into using Shelterluv. 
  2. Complete Import (includes all data, both in-custody and historic):
    • We recommend importing three to five years of data. Data older than this can cause extensive clean-up if older fields, such intake/outcome subtypes, are no longer used.
    • Certain fields/information can be imported, and others cannot, depending on your source system. 
    • We typically wipe your account during a complete import and your first day "live" begins the following day.
