SmartTag utilizes Shelterluv's API to provide almost instant updates to your SmartTag registry account when you process an adoption outcome in Shelterluv.
SmartTag's microchip registry integration is built by their team and is not managed by Shelterluv. We only provide SmartTag access to your data via our API once you send your API key to SmartTag. Since SmartTag built and manages the integration, you need to address any issues you may experience with them.
Setting Up Your SmartTag Integration
First, ensure you have a SmartTag account set up. If you do not, you can get started by applying through this link.
Next, you need an API key. To request an API key, please submit this form. Once the form is submitted, Shelterluv's support team will reach out when the key is generated.
Once you have your SmartTag account set up and your API key generated, email your API key to SmartTag at microchip@idtag.com to finalize your integration.
Information Needed for Proper Microchip Registration
To successfully register the microchip, the following information for both the person and the animal is required:
Owner information:
- First name
- Last name
- Email address
- Home phone number
- Address
Pet information:
- Pet name
- species
Events that Trigger Microchip Registration
All existing microchips will be backfilled to your SmartTag account when the integration is set up. After that, once an adoption is processed in Shelterluv, the microchip will be fully registered to the adopter.
The microchip will be registered to your organization when entered on an intake form or an in-custody animal's profile.
Microchips will only automatically register to the owner if an adoption outcome is processed. All other outcomes will not trigger an automatic registration.
SmartTag charges $7.50 per microchip registration for non-SmartTag microchips. Please keep this in mind for backfilled microchips that are not SmartTag's.
