How to Generate a Custom Iframe to Create Custom Animal Feeds

You can generate a custom iframe from a saved Custom Entities Animals report. Please keep in mind that custom iframes cannot be generated from Custom Events reports.

If you haven't saved a custom report before and need more information, please review this linked article before proceeding.

Custom iframes are a great choice if you need a more customized animal feed than what the standard iframe provides.

Examples of when you'd want to opt for a custom iframe instead of a standard one would include:

  • You want to post a feed of lost and found animals for your community
  • You want to post a list of animals in your custody that need foster care
  • You want to post a list of sponsored adoptable animals or your highlighted animals for the week/day

Tips for Building Your Saved Reports

We recommend giving your animals a unique attribute or status when they need to be added to an animal feed on your website that is powered by a custom iframe.

Here are a few examples of common custom iframes that Shelterluv organizations make, to help get you started:

Follow these steps if you want to make an animal feed for your website for animals that need foster care or to list "Pets of the week":

  1. Make a custom animal attribute called Needs foster care or Pet of the week and assign that attribute to each animal that you want to include in the custom iframe. You can do this quickly with the Edit Multiple tool.
  2. Create a new Custom Entities Animals report with a rule for Attribute Matches Needs foster care or Pet of the week.
  3. Save the report and generate the snippet as outlined above, using the Always run for the current day/time setting.
  4. Remove the attribute from the animal's record when needed, which will then remove the animal from the animal feed (typically within 20 minutes).

Follow these steps if you want to make an animal feed for your website for lost/found animals:

  1. Since these animals likely won't be in your care, make sure you complete an intake/outcome for them with a subtype that is configured not to count toward your reporting or LOS numbers. You can learn more about how to do that by clicking here.
  2. Make a custom in custody status called Reported Lost and another called Reported Found, and assign that status to each animal that you want to include in the custom iframe. You can do this quickly with the Edit Multiple tool.
  3. Create a new Custom Entities Animals report with a rule for Status Matches Reported Lost and/or Reported Found.
  4. Change the animal's status or outcome it from your account to remove it from the animal feed when needed (updates are typically made within 20 minutes).
