If your organization accepts cash or check payments along with credit cards outside of Shelterluv, you can complete the checkout using the Other Methods option in your Shopping Cart Manager.
Before you begin processing transactions, it's crucial to have all transaction-related configurations set up in advance. We recommend that you go through all of your transaction configurations before proceeding.
What user permissions do I need to process transactions?
- View, edit & create people records
- Process adoptions & purchases
- Create & edit animal records (if you are processing a transaction associated with an adoption)
What do I need to configure before I process transactions?
Start From the Person Record
All transactions will start from a person record. If the transaction should be associated with an intake or outcome, you will want to start by processing that event, and then you will be immediately taken to the Shopping Cart Manager, where you can then add the needed items to your cart (an owner surrender fee, for example).
If the transaction isn't associated with an intake or outcome, click the person record's Transactions tab followed by the green
Add Transaction button.
At this point, whether you've processed an intake or outcome, or gone through the person's Transactions tab, you will be in your Shopping Cart Manager.
In the Cart Management section, use the Add Item button to add any of your configured non-adoption items, licenses, or a non-Shelterpay donation.
Or, use the Add Animal button to add an adoptable animal to your cart, and process an adoption outcome.

Choose the Payment Method and Finalize the Transaction
Once you have all the items added to the cart, click the Change button in the Payment and Delivery Method section. From here, click the Other Methods button and choose from one of the available options:
- Credit Card (External Reader)
- Cash
- Check
- Voucher
- Gift Card
If you choose the Credit Card (External Reader) option, the credit card is Not Being Charged! This information is for reporting only. Shelterluv is not charging this card. It must also be swiped through an external credit card reader.
