Creating and working with litters is quick and easy to do in Shelterluv! You can intake a litter all at once with your intake forms, create a litter from an existing animal record, or add existing animal records to a new litter!

Note
It is important to remember that parents are included as part of the litter. We suggest distinguishing them by editing their name, e.g. "Maive (mom)".

Born in Care Litters and New Intakes

If you have a litter that was born in your care, you will want to create intakes for each littermate using Shelterluv's born in care intake type. We have a dedicated article outlining the step-by-step process to do that linked here - How to Process a Born In Care Intake

If you want to add a new animal to that hasn't been created yet to an existing litter, you can follow the same steps outlined below, but choose the Intake New Littermate option instead of the Add Existing Animal to Litter option. Doing so will give you the option to complete an intake form that matches the intake of the animal you are creating the litter with.

Add Animals to a New or Existing Litter

There are two ways to add animals already in your account to a new or existing litter.

• Use the litter icon to add animals to an already existing litter:

  1. Click the green litter icon on the right of an animal's name that is already in the litter you want to add an animal to. You can do this on your main dashboard or on an animal's profile.
  2. Click the Add to Litter button and choose the Add Existing Animal to Litter option.
  3. Check the box next to the animal you want to add and click the green Add to Litter button.

  

• Use the animal's Medical tab to add an animals to a litter that hasn't been created yet:

  1. Navigate to an animal's profile that is already in the litter you want to add another animal to.
  2. Click the Medical tab.
  3. Click the Create Litter button and choose the Add Existing Animal to Litter option.
  4. Check the box next to the animal you want to add and click the green Add to Litter button.

  

Removing Animals From a Litter

Follow these steps to remove an animal from a litter:

1. Click the green litter icon on the right of an animal's name. You can do this on your main dashboard or on an animal's profile.
2. Check the box on the left of the animal's name that you want to remove, and click the Remove from Litter button.
