Shelterluv allows you to create completely customizable tests with flexible results. This ensures you configure your diagnostic tests to meet your organization's needs.
Click your Username > Configuration > Medical > Diagnostic Tests to get started.

What do I need to configure before I create a diagnostic test?
Configuration is only accessible through a desktop or laptop. You cannot access the Configuration section on a mobile device.

How to Configure a New Diagnostic Test
Follow these steps to configure a new diagnostic test:
- From the Diagnostic Tests configuration section, click the green Add Diagnostic Test button.
- Fill out the Add Diagnostic Test form as outlined below.
- Click the green Save button.
Diagnostic Test Form Definitions
Field Name | Definition |
---|---|
Test Name | The name that will display when selecting a diagnostic test to add to an animal record. |
Default Product | If you don't know the appropriate product, choose Other In-House Test or Other Diagnostic Laboratory Test. Knowing what type of product was used allows Shelterluv to monitor which animals have been tested for a particular disease, regardless of what test was used. |
Next Due | This field is optional |
Result Name | The name that will display when selecting a result when completing the test. |
Type | Positive/negative or Text. We recommend Positive/Negative for simple tests such as FeLV/FIV, heartworm, Wood's lamp, etc. Choose Text if the test has a more complicated result, such as bloodwork, PCR, or urinalysis. |
Link to diagnosis | This field is optional |
Add Result Option | You can use this button if your diagnostic test requires more than one option for a result. |
How to Edit and Delete a Diagnostic Test

Follow these steps to edit a diagnostic test:

From the Diagnostic Tests configuration section, click the Type dropdown menu and choose a diagnostic test.

Click the pencil to open the Edit Diagnostic Test form.

Make your adjustments and click the green Save button.

Follow these steps to delete a diagnostic test:

From the Diagnostic Tests configuration section, click the Type dropdown menu and choose a diagnostic test.

Click the trashcan .
- Read the warning and click the red Delete button.

You cannot recover diagnostic tests that you delete. -

FeLV/FIV combo
- Number of results = 2
- Result name 1: FeLV, type: positive/negative, linked diagnosis: feline leukemia virus (FeLV)
- Result name 2: FIV, type: positive/negative, linked diagnosis: feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV)

Ringworm/DTM culture
- Number of results = 1
- We recommend 1 result. You can always write specific culture or microscopy results in the notes field.
- Result type: Positive/negative, linked diagnosis: Ringworm
OR
- Number of results = 2
- Result name 1: Culture plate, type: positive/negative
- Result name 2: Microscopic examination, type: text, linked diagnosis: ringworm

- Number of results= 1
- We recommend having one result. You can always write specific results in the notes field.
- Result type: positive/negative, linked diagnosis: coccidia, giardia

- Product: other (in-house)
- Result name 1: PCV, type: text
- Result name 2: TP, type: text

CBC, Chem, necropsy, radiographs/x-rays, ultrasound, USG, blood smear, histopathology
- Number of results = 1+
- Product: other (diagnostic laboratory) or other (in-house)
- This will help keep more accurate records about the type of test which was performed
- We recommend using one text result for these types of tests as there is often an interpretive element
- Result type: text, linked diagnosis: neoplasia, bladder stones, etc.

Urinalysis
- Number of results = 1-3
- You can keep this test simple, or may it be more complex based on what you routinely perform at your clinic.
- Result name 1: USG, type: text, linked diagnosis: Kidney disease
- Result name 2: Sediment exam, type: text, linked diagnosis: urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Result name 3: Dipstick, type: text, linked diagnosis: Diabetes mellitus
