Shelterluv statuses play a significant role in your account. Statuses determine if your animal is published to your website and aggregators, whether the animal is adoptable, and provides critical insights to you and your team into the animal's current state.
The Statuses section of your account's configurations contains two subsections:
- In Foster Statuses
- In Shelter Statuses
Click your Username > Configuration > Statuses to get started.

Overview
Once you select the Statuses section in your account's configurations, you will see two subsections for your in foster and in shelter statuses.
Select the different tabs below to navigate.
-
In foster statuses can only be applied to an animal record that is currently in foster care or is being moved to foster care. If an animal record is located at your location, you cannot apply an in foster status to the animal record.
-
Just like foster statuses, your in shelter statuses will only be available to animal records that are currently in a location within your organization. If an animal record is in foster care, you can only apply an in shelter status to it once it is returned to your organization.

Status Configurations
Now that we know how to add a new status, let's look at what each status configuration does.
Click the green Next button to move to the next slide.
-
Status Description
The status description is meant to clarify how to use a certain status or give extra details to your staff. The description is only visible in your status configurations.
-
Onsite
Set a status to be onsite if the animals in this status will be located at your facility while in the status. Set the status to be offsite if the animals in this status will be at an offsite location such as PetSmart, a vet office, or in foster care.
This setting will help differentiate your onsite-only length of stay calculations so you can keep them separate from your total length of stay.
-
Pre-Intake
Setting this to Yes will change your status from an in custody status to a pre-intake status. Please take a look at this article for details on how pre-intakes work.
-
Display Online
Toggling this on will publish any animal record in this status to your standard adoptable animals iframe, along with any aggregators you have configured (Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet).
This setting is essential as it determines which animals your community sees and can adopt. If you have an animal in your care that should not be visible to the public, such as an owner-requested euthanasia, make sure you set its status not to be displayed online.
-
Holdable
Any animal record in a status set to be holdable can be placed on an adoption hold by your staff. Set your status not to be holdable to help your team avoid any mistakes by ensuring the wrong animal record is not placed on an adoption hold.
-
Adoptable
Any animal record in an adoptable status can have an adoption outcome performed on its record. Set your statuses not to be adoptable to help prevent your staff from accidentally adopting the incorrect animal record.
