Shelterluv has integrations with Adopt-a-Pet and Petfinder that are easy to set up. Once you have your integration(s) activated with your preferred aggregator(s), everything is handled on the backend and automatically uploaded to your aggregator account, saving you and your team countless hours of manual work.
Adopt-a-Pet, Chewy, and Petfinder's integrations work differently. Please click each tab below for step-by-step instructions for each aggregator.

Request Your API Key
Adopt-a-Pet's integration is built with our API. Adopt-a-Pet will update every 30 minutes.
To get started, you need an API key. To request an API key, please submit this form. Once the form is submitted, Shelterluv's support team will reach out when the key is generated.
We highly recommend using separate API keys for each integration. For example, if you plan to set up integrations with Adopt-a-Pet and a microchip registry, please request two API keys when emailing our support team. If you need to cancel your account with one of them, we can revoke the API key for that specific integration without stopping the other integration.
- Log in to your Adopt a Pet account and navigate to this link, or in your Admin area, go to Shelter/Rescue AutoUpload/Import Pets. Remember: If you were using another software, de-activate 1st by setting active to "no" and then clicking update.
- Click Shelterluv and then click Continue.
- Paste your Shelterluv API key in the box labeled Shelterluv API Key.
- When you are ready to start the auto-upload, select the 'Yes' option above the API Key entry. Click Save and your automatic upload will begin processing.
Note
Adopt-a-Pet's integration is built by their team and is not managed by Shelterluv. We only provide access to your data via our API with your authorization. Since they manage the integration, you need to address any issues you may experience with Adopt-a-Pet's support team at helpdesk@adoptapet.com. -
Request Your API Key
Chewy's integration is built with our API and will update once daily.
Follow these steps to set up your Chewy auto-upload integration:
- Generate an API Key from your Shelterluv account using these instructions. We recommend using a separate API Key for each integration or data feed so they can be controlled separately.
-
Join the Chewy Network or Login to your Chewy Account and navigate to “My Shelters” from the Account Menu. Once on the My Shelters page, navigate to “Adoptable Pets”
- Click on “Add Adoptable Pets” and choose ShelterLuv from the dropdown.
- Paste your Shelterluv API key you generated at the beginning in the box labeled Shelterluv API Key.
Note
Chewy's integration is built by their team and is not managed by Shelterluv. We only provide access to your data via our API with your authorization. Since they manage the integration, you need to address any issues you may experience with Chewy's support team at rescue@chewy.com. -
Petfinder's integration will update once per day. The FTP-specific username and password are different from your general login details to your Petfinder account.
Follow these steps to set up your Petfinder auto-upload integration:
- To get your FTP username and password, email Petfinder's support at help@petfinder.com with this message:
"We are switching to Shelterluv as our software provider and would like to request our FTP credentials for auto-upload. Shelterluv will be sending photo URLs for our animals." - Once you receive your FTP username and password from Petfinder, enter them in the FTP Username and FTP Password fields.
- Click the green Save button to save your FTP details.
- When you are ready to start the auto-upload, check the Enable auto-uploads box.
Preparing your Petfinder Account
We recommend having Petfinder wipe your existing pets from your account before setting up auto-uploads to avoid duplicate listings, but this should be planned carefully with the Petfinder team so that there isn't a gap in your animals being listed. Animals will be listed in the order they are uploaded, and the newest animals will appear first.
Support
If you have any trouble linking your account or with the upload in general, email help@petfinder.com.
- To get your FTP username and password, email Petfinder's support at help@petfinder.com with this message:
