How to Set Up Your Microchip Integration

Shelterluv offers many different options for automatic microchip registry uploads. It is important to note that each registry differs from the information they upload and what triggers the upload. However, the process to set up the microchip registry integration you choose is identical across the board, except for 24Petwatch.

The article below applies to all microchip registry integrations except for 24Petwatch. Unfortunately, 24Petwatch does not utilize our API to build its integration and will continue using an FTP upload. This means your microchips will only update once a day and are subject to more delays rather than the almost instant uploads that our API can provide.

Request Your API Key

Avid, AKC Reunite, Fi Nano, Petlink, SmartTag, and BuddyID's integrations are built on our API, which means almost instant updates to your microchip registry account when you update an animal record in Shelterluv.

To get started, you need an API key. To request an API key, please submit this form. Once the form is submitted, Shelterluv's support team will reach out when the key is generated.

We highly recommend using separate API keys for each integration. For example, if you plan to set up integrations with Fi Nano and AKC Reunite, fill out the form linked above for each. This way, if you need to cancel your account with one registry, we can revoke the API key for that registry without stopping the integration associated with the other registry.

Email the API Key to Your Microchip Registry and Start the Integration

Now that you have your API key from Shelterluv's support team, you can email the key to your registry. They will set up the integration on their end and confirm with you when it is done and when the integration is live. No other action is needed after emailing the API key to your registry.
