A previously adopted animal can be marked as returned by first going to the adopter's record and navigating to the "Animals" tab. Find the correct animal and click on the green "Select" button. You'll be given a drop-down of options for that animal, including a "Return" option. Clicking "Return" will take you right into the return intake form.
If you are seeing an "Owner Surrender" option from the green "Select" button and no "Return" option, that means your shelter or rescue has enabled a threshold for adoption returns and owner surrenders. See the configuration note below for more details.
CONFIGURATION NOTE: Some rescues and shelters want to establish a threshold of a certain amount of time when adoption returns are actually considered owner surrenders. Users with configuration permissions can decide whether or not your shelter or rescue wants to use this type of threshold via Configuration. In the "General Shelter" section of Configuration, you'll see a section called "Return/Surrender Threshold". There you can choose whether or not you want to enable the threshold, and if enabled, the number of days you would like the threshold to be. Intaking an animal before that threshold is met will be considered an adoption return, while intaking an animal after that threshold will be considered an owner surrender.
