There are various search shortcuts for the main search bar that you can use to help find a certain animal or person even faster. 

Note: These shortcut options only work on the main search bar and not the dropdown search or Advanced Search page. 

Searching for animals:

• Entering just a name will give you exact matches for that name.
  
  
• Unchecking the "show exact spelling matches only" box will give you all animal records that have at least a matching 3-letter sequence as the searched name.
  
  
• Searching with a name or part of a name plus an asterisk as a wildcard (this bypasses the "show exact spelling matches only")
  • Wildcard at the end of a name: Jack* would return both "Jack 25" and "Jackson"
  • Wildcard at the beginning of a name: *Jack would return both "Bojack" and "2992 Jack"
  • Wildcards on both sides of the name: *Jack* would return all of the previous examples

• Use the entire animal ID (that includes your shelter prefix).

• "#(enter animal ID digits only)"

• "m#(enter microchip number)"
  • Example: m#111000123
    
    
• "old#(enter previous shelter ID)"
  • Example: old#XYZ-A-44

Searching for people:

• Searching with someone's full name will give you exact matches.
  
  
• Unchecking the "show exact spelling matches only" box will give you all people records that have at least a matching 3-letter sequence as the entered name.
  
  
• Searching with a name plus an asterisk (e.g. Bob*), will return all people records that start with that name (must uncheck the "show exact spelling matches only" box).
  
  
• "L:(enter last name)"
  • Example: L:Perkins
    
    
• "F:(enter first name)"
  • Example: F:Ann
    
    
• "#(enter person ID digits only)"
  • Example: #55
    
    
• "email:(enter person's email)"
  • Example: email:tommy@shelterluv.com
    
    
• "phone:(enter person's phone number)"
  • Can be entered with or without dashes/parenthesis.
  • Example: phone:5554295445
    
    
• "street:(enter street address from person's address)"
  • Example: street:7120 kittyhawk avenue
  • Note: The field in the search dropdown requires that you search by the entire street address, but if you go to the Advanced Search page, the Street Name field there allows for partial searches

Advanced Search page:

• Partial searches are possible on all fields except Shelter ID
  • Please note that in order to do a partial search for a microchip, you must be in the Advanced Search window, not the dropdown option
• You can search within the results page as well (similar to reporting)
